Things to See & Do

Visit St George’s - This picturesque town, wrapped around the perimeter of the island’s finest natural harbour, is perhaps the most appealing capital in the entire Caribbean. Founded in the early 18th century by the French, St George’s still possesses something of the character of a French town, particularly in the red tile roofs and pastel colours of its traditional architecture. St George’s contains a number of sites worth exploring, and the Board of Tourism provides a handy guide for walking tours.

Visit Gouyave, a fishing village about 50 minutes from Bacolet Bay, and is known locally as the town that never sleeps. More fish are caught by Gouyave’s fishermen than anywhere else on the island, and Gouyave people know their seafood. Be sure to visit on Fish Friday when vendors line St Francis and St Dominic streets with grills, fryers, steamers and cookers and create some of the most mouth-watering Grenadian seafood imaginable. The event is complemented by music, in the form of live bands and a DJ, and is fast becoming the place to be on a Friday night.

Visit Grenville, situated about halfway up Grenada’s eastern shore, is the island’s second largest city. Grenville is also home to Grenada’s largest nutmeg processing factory, which offers visitors extensive tours of the entire process of nutmeg preparation. Grenville’s colourful Saturday market is also worth a visit, as local farmers, fishermen, and merchants gather to sell all sorts of fresh produce, as well as local handicrafts.

Visit Grand Anse Beach - two miles of soft white sand line the turquoise waters of the Caribbean, which offers gentle surf and excellent visibility. Palm and sea grape trees shade the edge of the beach offering cool resting spot during peak sun hours. Grand Anse combines an incredible natural setting with plenty to do including scuba diving. Vendors along the beach rent water sports equipment and sell coral jewellery and hand-made crafts, and there are several major hotels and restaurants nearby.

Go diving - Aquanauts, Grenada’s premier scuba diving club have 2 diving centres located at True Blue Bay Marina and on the Grand Anse Beach. There are over 30 dive sites revealing Grenada’s hidden dive wrecks, marine life and stunning coral reefs.

Sailing Paradise - Grenada’s coastline consists of a collection of bays and inlets where small fishing communities nestle alongside the visiting yachts, giving Grenada the reputation as one of the best sailing destinations in the Caribbean. Also Grenada’s location as the southernmost tip of the Grenadines makes it an ideal location to start a yacht trip across the sun blessed islands.

Play Golf - The Grenada Golf Course and Country Club offers nine challenging holes and superb views of the Caribbean Sea as well as the Atlantic. Proposed Four Seasons Resort and Golf Course. Hog and Hartman estate, just 5 minutes from Bacolet Bay has been chosen for the creation of a Four Seasons resort. The on site championship standard golf course will be an added attraction for visitors to Grenada’s southern coast.

Visit Grand Etang Lake and Forest Reserve - The mountains of Grenada’s Central Range rise to over 2000 feet. Some of the mountains contain ancient crater basins, one of which holds a large crater lake, Grand Etang. The lake is over 1700 feet above sea level, and is surrounded with some of the island’s most beautiful rainforest. Close to the lake is the visitor’s centre of the Grand Etang Forest Reserve, Grenada’s premier nature park. It is also the starting point for many of the walks, hikes, and treks that can be taken through this stunningly beautiful area.

Visit the Botanical Gardens southeast of St. George. These pristine, tranquil gardens offer an enchanting welcome to the natural plants and flowers native to Grenada and the Caribbean.
